The holidays are among us and setting yourself up for success is key! The beautiful thing is that you get to define what success is and looks like. One of my favorite tools in both my personal and professional life is a planner, which may  seem like a no brainer right?! While I consider myself tech savvy, I’m a huge fan of a paper planner, specifically the InkWell Press that I’ve had for 4 years. They’ve continued to evolve in functionality and really listen to what their customer base has to say which is so refreshing. How I like to plan, and obviously tailer this to your needs:

  • post-it note everything leading up to the month
  • move them from the monthly view to the weekly view and denote on the monthly view that you have something going on that day (I use dot stickers)
  • Set up one week at a time with the post-it notes since plans change quickly in the holiday season
  • Within your weekly view set yourself for realistic success with meals, workouts, grocery shopping days, parties, goal driving changes, etc – it’s much harder to back out of something if it’s already being planned on

So let’s get to goals shall we? What’s yours? Once you identify the goal set up the plan to drive you toward it. I like using the SMART method. This is where you get really specific with what that looks like: is it (S)pacific, (M)easurable, (A)trainable, (R)ealistic, (T)imly. For example: if the goal is to eat 4 meals at home during the week, plan out the details: what are the days you will be cooking, does your schedule allow for that many days or are you #sobusy, what will you be cooking, what do you need to purchase to execute those 4 days, etc. When I work with clients we work through the steps together to create their plan. I can write you the best diet plan, workout regimen, self-care routine but at the end of the day, that’s not you and it might not work, ya know? You are the driver, I’m here to help facilitate!

So if you’re looking for an idea of how to set up your end-of-year schedule or looking for a planner for next year, check out InkWell Press here!

SHE’S POSTING ABOUT SOMETHING NON-FOOD RELATED, ALERT THE MEDIA lol. JK not lets go that far. But let’s definitely talk about this since it’s a question I’m asked often as a fitness instructor living in the great state of Texas.

My journey to a ‘cleaner’ and safer lifestyle has been a process. The limited research out there is going in all different directions so why not see what the craze is about right? Just from a sniff (and price) standpoint if nothing else! I’ve been trading up our cleaning products, dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, makeup (veryyyyyy slowly and I probs won’t let go of some things TBH), and most recently (as of 3ish years ago) deodorant.

If we dig into the science of ingredients like aluminum, parabens, polyethylene glycol, phthalates, formaldehyde, triclosan, synthetic fragrance, and the list could keep going they all could serve a purpose, not just in deodorant but in other things, from toothpaste to car engines. It doesn’t necessarily mean they are “bad”, it means that they are a chemical structure that has a job to do. But there is a SMALL, but growing, body of research that is starting to correlate some of these ingredients to adverse health outcomes (remember, correlation is NOT causation)! So do your research and talk with your doctor. ALSO, something sooooo important to point out: you are exposed to harmful chemicals on a daily basis, so find your #BALANCE y’all. For example, the perfume scent I wore on our wedding day was Marc Jacobs Daisy and I will NEVER give it up. #sorrynotsorry

NATURAL DEODORANTS I’VE TRIED

  • Toms: This was first on my list because it was well talked about, I could find it on the grocery store shelfs and it felt like a good first step. My sister-in-law loves it and so many friends are cult followers. But for me and my body, I didn’t see a change after a month of use…and yes I know you’re supposed to do it for 3 months but it seriously wasn’t doing anything. That was rough.
  • Schmidts: Next in line was Schmidts. Another easy to find at the grocery store pick, because y’all know I’m all about efficiency. The scents were great and it worked a little better but still not to where I thought it could. I may go back and try this one again sometime since it’s been a while. TBD!
  • Native: It was love at first sniff, for me and my body at least. It’s at a decent price point (especially if you do a create your own three pack and find a coupon code). They are also now found at Target *praise hands*!! The scents aren’t over powering which I love and they have a mens line that my husband and I really find appealing. I enjoy that they keep things fresh by creating new scents every so often and keep the best sellers in-rotation. I’ve noticed a few scents haven’t worked for me personally but it is what it is.
  • Pacifica Deodorant Wipes: I needed something that was travel, gym bag and purse friendly because I find it odd to carry a whole stick of deodorant in those situations when space is limited and you need a quick touch up. I had always seen Pacifica at general retailers and when I started this research of safer products it popped up and of course I had to give these a shot. They work great, I don’t feel sticky or smell like BO but they are heavily scented with the good stuff but it’s still a little heavy for me personally.
  • Primally Pure: I haven’t tried this yet, but it’s on my watch list! Have you guys ever heard of it/used it/love or hate it?! LMK!

MY EXPERIENCE

The body does a great job of self-regulating! So what really got me thinking on this a few years ago (outside of the food realm) was the thought of why do I have to keep going up in ‘strength’ as I get older?!…Cue the hours of researching. There isn’t a huggggeee body of literature just yet, maybe one day. But I was on my way mentally to letting my body figure things out, especially since every stage of life demands something a little different.  So why not just try it right? I can always go back. The first two weeks of “detoxing” were rough and I don’t think there is a right or wrong way to do this ‘science experiment’ as I referenced it to my husband. I tried my first natural deodorant for 2 months and switched to another brand. Tried that one for 3 months and switched to another brand and stayed with the 3rd ever since. Guess the third time was a charm! Within the brand I’m currently using, I’ve noticed the certain scents don’t really work with my skin chemistry and will leave pit stains on everything and some I’m a little more sensitive to. So a little trial and error, but what isn’t in this day-in-age?

I really hope this helps y’all and if you have any experience in the realm and or a good recommendation let me know in the comments down below! Happy safe sweating!

another week passes us and it was so great to step out of my day-to-day and gain some perspective and be creative in a different way during a work conference. It’s even better heading into a 3-day holiday weekend and taking extra time to be creative and soak in family and friends. Here’s to hoping your weekend and short week is off to a great start!

  1. ONLINE…

this week I’ve been crushing on a few IG accounts for recipes, workouts, and lifestyle inspro lately and I’m all about sharing so if you’re not already following @ohcarlene (another RD keeping it real with #allthescience and beautiful/approachable food recipes) @healthylittlepeach (this southern belle has a voice I could listen to for hours, her kids are the cutest, and her recipes are divine) @college_housewife (on of my favorite millennial day Martha Stewarts in the world) and @fitwithasd (not only do I love her workouts, and workout clothes but also her style account). Now go stalk their feeds!

2. CURRENTLY…

RN…

I am prepping for the week ahead after being out for a few days. Building my to-do list of cleaning, laundry, meal prep, catching up on emails etc. Soon I will start winding down with my night time routine of washing my face, getting a cup of chamomile tea, putting on my blue light glasses and catching up on a little TV with the hubs. Do you have a morning/night-time routine?!

3. CRAVING…

my cyclebar family, chocolate chip cookies, a trip to a farmers market while drinking a local coffee, a Spanish red wine

4. TASTING…

a-a-a-a-ah-alcohol…

have you guys ever tried albarino? It’s a white wine with a ton of acidity, medium alcohol, not sweet, not a lot of body and perfect for summer!

food…

seeing as I was gone half the week I meal prepped stuff for my husband to survive without me and I ate whatever was catered. I love seeking out new places to eat to experience the culture, unique cuisine, of a place and Chicago has a lot of it (much like a Dallas, Houston, or Austin).

5. GRACE

show love like Jesus shows us love, through unconditional grace. Show yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, and strangers all the grace and watch how your perspective shifts. It’s truly a beautiful thing and we need a lot more of it in this world!

6. WELLNESS ROUTINES

this is such a trendy topic that is here to stay for a while I think! I love creating my morning/nightly/selfcare/work/car ride routines. It helps inspire me to stay focused on a task, grow professionally, create space to be creative, facilitates joy in the small actions of life, etc. How do you practice wellness?

Here’s to hoping your week starts off on a positive note!

partyyyyyyyyy ppeeeeeoooooopppllllleeeeeeeee! What’s up?! We made it through another glorious week. What are your celebrations this week, reflect for a second and drop it in the comments because I want to celebrate you too! My little celebration was getting 7 hours of sleep every night thanks to my blue light glasses (bonus: they are SUPER stylish).

  1. ONLINE…

this week I’ve been crushing on a few IG accounts for recipes, workouts, and lifestyle inspro lately and I’m all about sharing so if you’re not already following @claire_coppi (her tasting notes on wine make me want to sit around and drink all day) @winefolly (if you love learning and you love wine, she’s amazing) @cloveandarrowessentials (this new momma is so fun to watch all of her essential oil recipes for non-toxic living) and @thebakermama (charcuteries and family…what more does one need in life). Now go stalk their feeds!

2. CURRENTLY…

RN…

simultaneously packing for a work trip to Chicago and procrastinating by scrolling through the LikeToKnow It app to browse bathing suits and “resort wear” for my upcoming family beach vacation. I feel I’ve mentioned this in every post, but literally can’t contain my excitement!

waiting on…

NOTHING! My mantra this week was ” The most effective way to do it is to do it”. So whatever you may be waiting on, don’t wait, start chasing/changing right now! Book that workout class you’ve been wanting to try, set your phone across the room so you have to actually get up to turn it off, start drinking more water right now, so like nike, JUST DO IT!

3. CRAVING…

a boxing class, a heavy leg day, vanilla ice cream with a million mini m&ms, intentional down time

4. TASTING…

a-a-a-a-ah-alcohol…

there aren’t too many places here in DFW where you can get a local wine and sit on the property of said vineyard and drink. That being said, I’ve found a gem to share with you – Mitas Hill. It’s located in Anna, TX and has a great tasting/tour. I’m typically a full-bodied red drinker so majority of their wines didn’t really speak to me, but their Tempranillo hit the spot. Get you a bottle, order a couple of appys, and park it outside on their patio for an easy-going afternoon (all fingers crossed it’s not tooooooo hot that day)

recipes…

we are continuing with meal prep galore and no real desire to cook a fancy meal. This week I’ve been heavily relying on my freezer. There are some awesome brands out there doing right by the vegetables that should be making up half your plate (like Tommy’s, Birdseye, Green Giant). Use that with any leftover protein on hand and a light drizzle of a sauce of choice (depending on what flavor profile you’re going for)!

5. PEOPLE

I think I’m a good mix of introvert and extravert but apparently I come off more extravert and I’m a-ok with that. It makes engaging with people a lot easier, guess my mom is really wearing off on me. I have been meeting so many people through the multiple hats I wear in life and it really has been filling my cup lately. So I want to challenge you to step outside your comfort zone and maybe introduce yourself to someone at your next workout class or the person in the cubicle down the hall from you. You never know how they may change your life…

6. PASTA

…dressed with pesto, sun dried tomatoes and shrimp TBH..and always a glass of wine. I know…it’s about to be summer…and the infamous *no carb* *low carb* comes back in full force because…well…bathing-suit season. But I’m here to tell you carbs are you friend and you need them to exist, so practice moderation, make them whole grain, and enjoy the heck out of them with some lean proteins and fats, and maybe a glass of wine if you’re into that.

Here’s to hoping your week starts off on a positive note!

As another week goes by, I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS FOR Y’ALL. So help me, help you to help us 🙂

  1. ONLINE…

I’ve been “Yelping” ALOT lately getting ready for mothers day, finding new and fun date nights, and making suggestions to friends. What are some of the ways you like to research things?

2. CURRENTLY…

RN…

updating my Pinterest wishlist board with a few workout wardrobe items and contemplating trying ‘Rent the Runway’ to refresh my summer wardrobe.

waiting on…

my Sephora order (Drunk Elephant minis, Philosophy Pure cleanser, Marc Jacobs eyeliner, Tarte mascara)! Did y’all take advantage of their sale?! Every little penny counts and I have been eyeing these couple of items for a while now, so stock up when you can right?

3. CRAVING…

a fresh spring and summer wardrobe (but wanting to save money…the struggle is real), sparkling waters, a walking trail, less phone time

4. TASTING…

a-a-a-a-ah-alcohol…

Lost Oaks Winery & Vineyard in Bureleson, TX is where we went for mothers day and it was a blast! We’ve had their wines before and it’s nothing to write home about but the atmosphere (and people) was key for us. Their tasting fee was great, and lets us normal red drinkers get out of our bubble into the whites and sweets. If you have kids and need a place for them to run and play while you do a little sipping this place was PERFECT (PRO TIP: bring chairs, a blanket to sit on, snacks, etc since their property is huge and inviting)

recipes…

ever since I added another cycle class to my schedule, I’ve been leaning heavily on prepping a few extra items to make sure weeknight meals are easy and quick and loaded with veggies. This month my goal has been to double my vegetable intake (PSA: the recommended amount is 5-9 servings. A serving is 1 cup raw or 1/2 cup cooked…..yeah….let that sink in….I know right?!)

5. EVERYTHING TARGET

how does $5 + $2 + $14 + $5 + $1 = $370? Target has literally taken my whole budget this month by decorating my work office *eye roll* at least it’s SUPER cute!

6. AUTHENTICITY

I have run across some really unique influencers while scrolling through IG with great content that’s SUPER refreshing in a very saturated platform. Who are some of your favorite people you follow?

Here’s to hoping your week starts off on a positive note!

  1. ONLINE…

this week I’ve tried really hard to be cognizant of my screen time (TV, computer, and phone, etc). I usually don’t watch TV because I don’t prioritize it, unless the bachelor is on, but even then I record it because ya know…2 hours is a lot. With my phone I started setting intentional time aside to scroll through IG, FB, make cycle playlists because all of those things are rabbit holes! So – this is totally stemming from how the iPhone is now sending me “reports” of my “screen time” saying it was up/down from the week prior. It’s clearly a love hate relationship I have with it.

2. CURRENTLY…

RN…

loving my audible account! I made the goal to read 1 book per month last year and I read 4. I just didn’t make the time because other things were more important to me. So instead of going and renting a book from my local library, I’m using audible for straight up convenience! Lemme tell you, it’s been so great! So far, I’ve listened to: “Becoming”, “You Are A Badass”, “You’re a Badass at Making Money”, and “Dressing on the Side, and Other Myths”. What have y’all been reading lately?

waiting on…

my next audible credit to hit my account! I’m sooooo hooked

3. CRAVING…

crafting, spring cleaning my Google drive/office/apartment/pantry/wardrobe/social media/ALL.THE.THINGS, Prosseco, and learning

4. TASTING…

everything Gluten Free

it’s National Celiac Awareness Month and at work we have a huge month-long campaign going to bring awareness to what Celiac is. So in the office (and in-store) there is been NO shortage of products to taste test! Something I always like to point out is that gluten free does not mean healthier. Pay attention to how you body (and mind) feels with all foods you put in!

a-a-a-a-ah-alcohol…

have you ever had a wine that wasn’t to your liking but you didn’t want to waste it? This is how I feel about Riesling and Lambrusco. I can appreciate them, but they aren’t my favorites. So in order to not waste them I make spritzers! With both I like to add them to a plain or grapfruit flavored sparkling water. It’s light, refreshing, and perfect for spring and summer!

recipes…

charcuterie boards have been my go to lately! I love buying a few things I don’t plan on eating but it’s always nice to have incase I get into that munch state: 1 cucumber, a bag of carrots, a couple extra pieces of fruit, etc. So if I don’t eat them throughout the week I can easily transition them to a charcuterie board for Friday/Saturday dinners!

5. BABY SHOWES BRING MAY FLOWERS

all of the baby announcements are popping up right now and I’m absolutely loving it! My husband and I don’t have kids just yet but we’d like them eventually…but until then I’ve got his high school football and basket teams to take care of (lord help us with our food bill if we have boys). So in the mean time I’m love seeing what all of these expecting and new mommas have on their wishlists. Here are my top 3 favorite baby shower gifts:

6. GIANT SALADS

I love a good salad but when it comes in a bowl as large as my torso (mild exaggeration) my game face is on! Spring flavors (and colors) are so hot right now so get creative with your next one #nosaddeskssaladsallowed

Here’s to hoping your week starts off on a positive note!

this week I’ve been crushing on a few IG accounts for recipes, workouts, and lifestyle inspro lately and I’m all about sharing so if you’re not already following @theellenshow (I mean it’s Ellen Degenerous people, we all need a little more positivity in our feeds and she is an EXCELLENT source) @susiedrinks (all things boozy in the DFW metroplex. Leave it up to Susie and her team, me being on of them, to bring you product/brand/event reviews) @beautifulbooze (if you haven’t figured it out by now, I love a good beverage, especially when it’s simple and beautiful) and @collegenutritionist (Rachel focuses on simplistic meals at their finest while focusing on students, grads, and singles). Now go stalk their feeds!

2. Currently…

RN…

I am creating my cycle playlists for my Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday classes for the month of May. I love batching this task because it (a) makes me excited that I’m prepared and (b) gets me pumped to teach the class when it’s a kickass super intentional playlist. I’d love to know what y’all are listening to as well, so leave it below in the comments!

obsessing over…

target…I mean its target but their new seasonal items that just rolled out gave me all the feels. If I had a house with storage I’d probably buy All.THE.THINGS. but I don’t so here are a few bloggers to help you obsess over Target even more:

Camille Styles                      Living With Landyn

3. Craving…

sunshine, a good playlist, a trip to HomeGoods (even though I need nothing), and finding cute coffee shops

4. Tasting…

Lubbock, TX

So I went on a work trip this past week to headquarters located in Lubbock, Texas. These trips are pretty short and sweet so I make the most of them with trying a new place, ‘The Funky Door’. Really cool place (with tons of wine of course), so check out my Yelp review! If I can’t find something healthy-ish or what I’m in the mood for I buy from our store and lemme tell you, before this job I wouldn’t normally buy food from the food service area or cold-prepared section but knowing what I know now with our stores I look forward to the days when I “forget” lunch or didn’t make enough the night prior to have leftovers or am on a trip. It’s budget friendly and delicious.

a-a-a-a-ah-alcohol…

we just had a charcuterie night the Friday I came back and lemme tell youuuuuu them bottles be poppin! And when they aren’t poppin we use our Coravin. This (expensive) little tool is well worth the investment if you love wine. It allows you to puncture the cork without popping the bottle and having it go rancid if you didn’t drink it all. It makes an awesome gift for the wine lover in your family or circle of friends.

recipes…

I didn’t do much cooking this week since I was gone for about half of it. So something that I’ve been loving up on is pancetta. Now the key is to find you a good quality one…(yes, it’s my inner Ina Garden coming out) like Boars Head or Columbus. I have the deli slice up one 1/4 inch thick piece and I cube it up for salads, appetizers, or to throw in a dish for the fat to be rendered out (and saved).

5. Lift People Up

It may sound cliche but be the change you want to see in the world. Put out the vibes into the universe that you want to see and ultimately it will make it’s way back to you. So take sometime in your day to lift others up. Be as simple or creative in your methods, but do it, it feels good I promise.

6. Family time

have you ever gone to a family reunion? Well I go to one every year in a tiny town called Muenster, TX and it’s called German Fest. This is where my Grandmother’s family on my mom’s side grew up. Long story short, my mom has 51 first cousins…YEAH…so every year we all meet up, play games, dance, get sunburned, drink a healthy amount of beer, and eat way too much strudel/bratwurst/sauerkraut/turkey legs/kettle corn/you get the point. It’s always a good time no matter the day. I love this crazy family of mine!

Here’s to hoping your week starts off on a positive note!

this week I’ve been crushing on a few IG accounts for recipes, workouts, and lifestyle inspro lately and I’m all about sharing so if you’re not already following @nourishnflourish (intuitive eating for dayysssss! And she’s hosting a 10-week workshop so get in while you can!) @graciemeringer (she is a relationship coach all about that self-care and self-love) @foodfitnessandfaith (so spunky and her feed makes me fall in love with vegetables everytime time) and @antoine_howard (talk about drive and purpose – if you pick up only 10% of what he’s throwing down you’ll be 100% driven to be a better version of yourself). Now go stalk their feeds!

2. CURRENTLY…

RN…

finishing up a craft project for my mother-in-law. I can’t even tell you how many projects I have on my plate outside of this blog but I write them down in my planner (with action steps of course) so I can get them off my mind and enjoy this glorious 4-day weekend situation I’ve been blessed with. If you have not tried this method I HIGHLY recommend it.

WAITING ON…

my summer vacation. Keep in mind my vacation is a little less than 2 months away but I’ve already started sifting through my closet picking out outfits, with accessories of course, and trying to find 1-2 swimsuits online (because heaven forbid if I wear the same swimsuit twice). So until then I will keep looking back on last year’s vacation photos to give me all the feels.

3. CRAVING…

roasted vegetables, a margarita, a meditation session, and revamping my workout schedule

4. TASTING…

Plano, TX

the past 2 weekends we’ve gone somewhere in Legacy West. If you haven’t been to this area yet, get there soon! Its vibrant and fun with so many delicious restaurants, beautiful shopping, and overall vibrant culture. My top 3 restaurants at the moment are: Haywire, Earls and North Italia (honorable mention to TruFood Kitchen). Still on my list of places to go is Bulla Gastro Bar (I just don’t know if I can bring myself to pay $40 for paella though eeekkkk)….but I’ll keep you posted

a-a-a-a-ah-alcohol…

annnnnnnd the Texas storms are here. If you don’t live here I suggest not visiting in April, only because the weather could be 95 one day and then 60 the next with grapefruit sized hail *eyeroll*. So my alcohol intake has been everything from Gin and Waterloo to Australian Shiraz. A brand that I’ve been crushing on lately is Molly Dooker because they do it soooo well.

recipes…

I shared my quick and easy enchilada sauce on the gram a few days ago and I guess I’ll share it on here too because it’s like Frank’s, “I put that shi*t on everything”. Ready? 1 can of rotel, 2-4 chipotles in adobo, blend it in a nutribullet and you’re done! #yourewelcome If you try it, use the hashtag #TaylorYourTable because I would love to see your creations.

5. LEG DAY!

gainnnnnns for days! I mentioned I want to start mixing up my workouts yet again. I had knee surgery back in September and have slowly been building up strength and stamina and I finally feel I’m at the point where I can lift heavy and with the right motivation and modifications I’m all sorts of pumped to cross-train a little better. If you need some ideas to switch up your routine I highly suggest @bretcontreras1 and @alexrice

6. INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES

I have practiced this for sometime now where I scroll through social media for about 20 minutes to find a quote that resonates with me. I use it to fuel my week ahead by setting it as the intention. I look at it everyday as a reminder to refocus if I start veering off.

What are your wins this week? What are some of your favorite things you’ve experienced?

Here’s to hoping your week starts off on a positive note!
